Hayden graduated with a Master of Planning Practice (MPlanPrac) from the University of Auckland in 2010 and has held key planning roles in both local government and central government.

His extensive experience includes 5 years as a Principal Planner at Auckland Council processing district and regional consent applications, managing hearings and appeals processes, developing practice and guidance, and statutory decision-making. In recent years he has expanded his planning and urban development skill set through his work at Kāinga Ora on the Specified Development Projects programme and implementing the Urban Development Act.

Hayden is known for his calm, considered and collaborative approach to navigating the complexities of statutory planning processes.

Outside of work, Hayden enjoys spending time at the beach with his family, getting out on the tennis court or golf course, and cheering on the Blackcaps and the New Zealand Warriors!
