Slope over Distance Calculator

Find the slope between two points from their ground levels and horizontal separation. Enter the levels in metres using a common datum, then choose metres or millimetres for the horizontal distance.

Worked example: A rise from 100 m at X to 101 m at Y over an 8 m horizontal distance produces a 12.5% slope, a 1:8 ratio, and an angle of approximately 7.125°. Reversing the levels gives a falling slope of -12.5%, expressed as -1:8.

Measure horizontal distance on a plan, not the length along the inclined surface. Equal levels produce level ground; zero horizontal distance cannot produce a finite slope calculation.
